Kumon UK and Ireland is seeking inspiring individuals with a passion for education to open new study centres throughout the country. Kumon currently has 10 centres in Ireland and would like to expand its network with new centres in Dublin and other counties.

Kumon, offers individualised maths and English programmes to children of all abilities, aged two and above. The programmes cover counting through to calculus and sentences to symbolism, so prospective Instructors need good subject knowledge to guide students through the appropriate work and keep them motivated.

In addition to having a strong ability in maths and English, new Instructors will also need to enjoy marketing and have a flair for business as each Instructor promotes their class within the local area.

Before David Browne opened his Wicklow Kumon franchise in 2009, he worked in retail. He discovered Kumon on a family holiday when he saw his three-year old niece completing work sheets and decided to investigate further.

“I decided to become a Kumon Instructor initially because my wife was an Instructor and I could see the difference Kumon was making in my children's lives. Also, I liked the idea of running my own business and being able to fit it in around my life.

“I view kumon as a business model that fits my schedule and family life. But it is capable of giving me at least an average wage, or better, at the end of the month. This has meant for me that I work at growing the number of students constantly. Kumon is labour intensive but not very time specific, apart from the classes of course. For me, this means Kumon can fit with my other commitments. I have found self-discipline and scheduling to be a must.”
