Esquires Coffee Houses in West Street, Drogheda, has been named by Retail Excellence Ireland (REI) as one of the Top 100 Stores in Ireland for 2012.

Kealan O’Connor, Drogheda franchise owner, said: “We are delighted to make the Top 100 Stores in Ireland, particularly as we only opened our doors to the public last November.”

The store, which among other things was scrutinised and visited by a mystery shopper, will now progress to stage two. This will involve a formal store assessment and hopefully see it progress to the Top 50 stores in Ireland.

O’Connor added: “We have a fantastic team here in Esquires. We have worked very hard and our aim is always to successfully deliver a highly professional and engaging experience for our customers.”

If successful, they will then move on to stage three, whereby six finalists will be chosen in five different size categories and the overall winners announced at a gala dinner in Galway on November 3.

REI is the largest retail industry trade body in Ireland and involves more than 850 leading retail companies who operate over 9,500 stores in the Irish market.

Tony McVerry, Master Franchise Owner for Esquires Coffee in Ireland, said: “The REI yearly awards are the Oscars of retailing in Ireland and we are very proud for our Drogheda store to have received this recognition.

“We have every confidence that Kealan and his team will go on and emulate the success of our Carrick-on-Shannon store’s achievement in 2010, when it was runner up in its size category and was the only cafe/restaurant store to finish in the Top 30 that year.”
