Reaping the rewards of retail
Having spent virtually his entire working life in the retail sector, becoming part of the Eason’s family was seen as very much a natural move for Dave Power.
“The Eason brand is an iconic one which has been serving its customers for many years,” he states. “When first looking into the brand it already had a few franchise locations established and we believed that there was an opportunity to grow our own retail portfolio under the Eason banner.”
When investigating the opportunity to move into the world of franchising Dave had set criteria he wanted to meet before taking the leap. These included ensuring that the franchise in question possessed a proven support structure, brand awareness and a track record for making money. Eason’s met all of these points.
“Upon becoming part of Eason’s our staff were seconded to an Eason store to obtain the necessary training on their tills and ordering systems,” Dave continues. “As we today operate a number of stores under the Eason banner we organise all staff training through our own stores. Eason also facilitate structured training through IBEC for all stores in the group.”
As Dave rightly points out, the need to have well trained staff ready to handle and sell the wide variety of products available within an Eason store is as important as the upfront capital required to have said new Eason store equipped with stock, furniture, IT and other support systems.
Since becoming a franchise owner Dave has pleasantly found the experience to be exactly as he expected, and in a number of cases much better. “Since becoming associated with Eason I have found that any matters that have arisen have been dealt with in a quick and professional manner. Our whole experience with Eason has been great and today we have five stores in partnership with them, the most recent of which opened last November in Clonmel, and remain on the look out for future opportunities.”
As Dave and anyone else who has had experience of working within the retail industry will tell you, it can be a tough one to operate in, however when things are done right it can also be one of the most rewarding.
