Excellent support is key
Redundancy from his previous job turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Kevin Harrington, who is revelling in the opportunity of CeX franchise ownership.
When Kevin Harrington was made redundant from his previous job, he took it as an opportunity to pursue the new challenge that he had been seeking for some time.
He was keen to take advantage of his strong business skills to run his own business, and sought a concept that would work well in his home-town of Cork City, Ireland. He also felt that the added security afforded by operating within a franchise model was key.
Kevin comments: “The support of the franchise system was important to me as I felt I would benefit greatly from a franchisor’s experience and get a faster return on my investment.”
The next step was to find a franchise to match his own goals for his investment: namely a professional organisation with a strong brand image in a growing market. After extensive research via the Irish franchise website, for Kevin, CeX ticked all these boxes, as a leader in the second hand technology market and recognised as such nationwide.
“What appealed most was that the structure of the franchise model gives individuals the ability to deliver on the promises made, with the strong brand image and professional people I could work with,” he says.
Full training was provided in-branch at the Newry and Derry franchise stores with completion of the CeX competency packs. Kevin adds that he was particularly impressed by the professionalism of staff he met on an additional visit to the CeX support Centre. Also adding to the excellent variety of training and experience was the fact that he was also able to participate in two store builds, giving a thorough perspective of the business.
He comments: “The training was excellent; could not fault it. All CeX staff were very accommodating and helpful.”
Kevin describes becoming a CeX franchise owner as exceeding his already high expectations, and he continues to be grateful further down the line for the support he has received, which was, of course, key to his decision to look into franchising in the first place.
He explains: “Support at every level, from initial training to the excellent and ongoing support I have received from my franchise manager, as well as the store-build support has been excellent. This is particularly in relation to the advice on store organisation and layout.”
Kevin revealed that he believes CeX has fulfilled its obligations as a franchisor in every regard, and therefore already plans to expand with additional stores in the near future. He would also have no hesitation in recommending the franchise to other enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working as part of a team.
He concludes: I have really enjoyed becoming part of the CeX family. I am proud to fly the CeX flag in Cork City, Ireland, and owning the franchise allows me to have an excellent work/home balance.”
