What's the big idea? Raring2Go is a quarterly guide to what to do and where to go with your children. It's aimed at the parents of children aged 8 and under and is distributed through school book bags and at playgroups, nurseries and libraries. It's also available online.

The local guide provides ideas for days out and has information about facilities such as parking, baby changing etc. They also list where to find activities like music or swimming lessons, cinema showing for kids and even services like party entertainers.

How does it work? First, you buy a Raring2Go franchise with exclusive coverage of your local town or area. You receive full training and a pack that covers every aspect of setting up and running your magazine (the website work is all done for you!). The printing is taken care of for you. Each magazine should generate around £3,000 profit per issue and with the website tie-in as well Raring2Go really has got every base covered.

Who can do it? You don't need any qualifications and the pack and training explain everything you need to know. "Because the magazines are only published four times a year it's easy to fit the work in around being a full-time mum," says Kirsten Williams, one of the first publishers. "The income is great, particularly when you work it out on an hourly basis."

Who's behind it? Raring2Go is provided by the company that run My Mag community magazines and the local community website thebestof.co.uk, which is one of the Top 40 most popular websites in the UK. "The support from the HQ team has been fantastic," says Kirsten "and with Raring2Go I really have found the perfect balance between work and family."
